Burger King Goes Black Tie →
Burger King is preparing to add a Kobe beef burger to its menu, at least in London.
The home of the Whopper intends to charge a whopping £85 — well north of $150 — for the delicacy, which will be made from what it says will be top-quality Kobe beef flown in from Japan.
Rather than cheddar cheese and a pickle, the Kobe burger will be garnished with blue cheese and foie gras.

Mark Bittman Puts Meat Back in Its Place
Suggestions from my main man in the NYT, author of How to Cook Everything: Vegetarian, which is highly recommended for omnivores:
“LET’S suppose you’ve decided to eat less meat, or are considering it. And let’s ignore your reasons for doing so. They may be economic, ethical, altruistic, nutritional or even irrational. The arguments for eating less meat are myriad and well-publicized, but at...
Too Hot to Cook
I declare this my summer of the chopped salad! Especially because we joined a CSA and are going to have lots of random veggies soon.
Tonight:
Romaine, zucchini, cucumbers, cherry tomatoes, green onions, and avocado, tosssed in a blue cheese balsamic vinaigrette.
This would also be good with some shrimp thrown in, but it’s too hot to walk to the good seafood store.

The salmon shortage →
“What happened to the mighty chinook of the Pacific Northwest? Regional fisheries officials have blamed ocean conditions for a temporary decline in the plankton and small fish that juvenile salmon feed on. But most of the problem is man-made.
Spawning salmon need gravel streambeds and cold, fast-running water to lay their eggs. Giant pumps have been piping water from the Sacramento-San...

Smoked Pork Loin
Yesterday, as I am wont to do on the weekends, I smoked some meat. In particular, I tried a pork loin for the first time, and I must say it turned out beautifully. Here’s what I did:
Brined the pork loins (4) in a solution of salt and molasses for 6 hours
Applied a dry rub to the loins, which consisted of the following:
Salt
Pepper
Cayenne
Garlic Powder
Paprika
Cumin
...

It’s what Somerset is about, we have such a green and varied landscape that your never far away from feeling your in the middle of no where!.
